Florida Virtual School Pros and Cons
With my son graduating from his amazing Charter School the hunt for a middle school began. We'd attended a talk at the middle school we were zoned for and the first statistic quoted was a 68% reduction in arrests..it's a middle school. After that all I heard was a whooshing sound... While that school has made improvements in most every respect, it wasn't a fit for us. On the great hunt for a middle school we went. We used numerous resources from Great Schools to word of mouth. Finding more personal reviews would have been helpful..leading me to offer my review..which may turn into a series of posts, with this one offering Pros and Cons.
After much debate we decided on homeschool-ish. While he is attending school at home (and Starbucks, Panera, the beach, and ...) I didn't develop the curriculum but instead chose a virtual public school, Florida Virtual School (FLVS).
We haven't committed to homeschooling until graduation and wanted him to be able to step back into the classroom with as little pain as possible. With options like homeschool (no diploma, pick and choose classes) or Full Time (public school class requirements, diploma offered) FLVS does have some flexibility..which leads me to pros and cons...
